Celebration events, courses and more school visits

Two celebration events took place at the Scampston Heritage Learning Centre in June and July.

Monday 22nd June was the day for the formal launch of the Scampston  Heritage Learning Centre. The day was a chance for all the funders, project staff, contractors and volunteers involved in the project to celebrate a major achievement and to see the restored conservatory and gardens bothies, heritage exhibitions and learning centre.

The morning included speeches by Sir Gary Verity (Chairman of the Heritage Lottery Fund – Yorkshire an the Humber) and Sir Charles Legard (Scampston Conservatory Preservation Company – Director), followed by lunch in  the Walled Garden Restaurant. There was time for everyone to explore the restored conservatory and take a walk around the gardens and parkland at Scampston.

The afternoon continued the celebration with a gathering or volunteers, estate staff and participants in the Oral History project with Liz Smith (Oral Historian) and Heritage Volunteers.

Friday 3rd July saw  members of  The Croft – Camphill Village Trust (CVT) attend a Celebration and certificate presentation evening at the Scampston Conservatory and Heritage Learning Centre.

Ready for presentations
The event was coordinated by Gill Garbutt (North Yorkshire County Council Adult Learning and Skills Service), Sue Parsons (The Croft – Camphill Village Trust) and Paul Mosley (Heritage Learning Officer – Scampston Conservatory Preservation Company).

Presentation of certificates
The ten students (all based within The Croft Community), had worked extremely hard to achieve their awards. All the students attended both classroom based study and placement opportunities, including working in the gardens at Scampston Hall, volunteering at Malton Library and the Kingfisher café, Malton, helping widen their knowledge of customer services and community involvement.

Presentation of certificates
After a formal presentation of certificate by Sir Charles and Lady Legard everyone was invited to a buffet in the conservatory with food provided by the Kingfisher Café.  There was also time for guests to explore the restored Scampston Conservatory and exhibitions and take a walk in the walled garden and see some of the beds that  the garden volunteers had worked on.

The evening was a great success celebrating the achievements of the students and the overall  placement and learning programme.

Open to the Public...

On this Bank Holiday weekend, the fully restored conservatory opened to the public for the first time.

Lots of visitors turned out in the sunshine to see the restoration first-hand and enjoy the new displays on the history of the conservatory and Scampston Hall.
